On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Irene Ouazaa and Callie Acquaye, Registered Nurses from Julia’s Center for Healthcare in Plano, Texas attended the local “Empowered” event, organized by the Collin County Crime Victims Council in partnership with the Plano Police Department’s Victim Services Unit resource fair designed to support crime survivors.  The Empowered event provides victims of domestic violence and trauma access to vital resources and offers various services including hygiene and cleaning products, a clothing closet, legal aid, food pantry, yoga, massages, Texas Credit Union Food Truck, and the Workforce Solutions Mobile Truck.

The event had over 200 visitors and the Julia’s Center team was able to register 20 new patients for the clinic and impact 60 individuals via table touches. In addition to the table touches, we were able to conduct blood pressure screenings in partnership with Avenue K Church Ministries and shared various resources in managing high blood pressure, stroke prevention, cardiovascular health via healthy nutrition and exercise  and diabetes nutrition management via health plate resources. Thank you to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas Emergency Department, Heart & Vascular Team, and Stroke Program Team who donated swag for our table . We took the opportunity to discuss the importance of annual physicals, seeing your provider for regular and sick care visits, when to go to the emergency room and when to call 911.

Thank you to Jessica Serrano, Senior Victim Associate and her team at the Plano Police Department for all the wonderful work they do in supporting the needs of our most vulnerable population. We look forward to our continued partnership.
